Setting: The movie was set in France during the French Revolution in the 19th Century.
Plot: The story began when Jean Valjean was released after many years of imprisonment. He wanders on streets and was rejected by the society for he’s a former ex-convict. When he was resting, Bishop Myriel saw him and took him inside his house.
At night, he stole the silverwares of the Bishop and escaped, but he was captured by the officers. The bishop saved him again by denying that he stole the silverwares and left the silver candlesticks which represents honesty. Because of what happened he decided to change the course of his life.
Years passed Jean is now called Monsieur Madeleine, a rich factory owner and a Mayor of his place.
He had a factory worker named Fantine who has a child, Cosette which she left with the Thenardiers. She didn’t know that Cosette was being mistreated. Fantine was fired at the factory when they knew that she has a child born out og wedlack. From thenon, she doesn’t know how to pay the Thernardiers so she sold her hair and her two teeth and then was engaged to prostitution. Because of that, she had gotten a disease.
Then there came a man who attempted to abuse Fantine but she fought back and hit him in the face. Javert came and sentenced her to prison. Fortunately, Jean arrived and saved her from the verdict. He then took Fantine to the hospital for medication. But she eventually died.
Javert went to the hospital, but Jean asked for favor if he could give him time to find Cosette, but Javert refused so he escaped.
One night, Jean saw a girl in the woods. He asked for her name and was happy when he knew he found Cosette. He accompanied the girl and asked the Thenardiers that he would give anything just to take Cosette away from them. Since the couple wanted money, they agreed.
Several years later, there were some activist named as the Friends of ABC. One of them was Marius, from a rich family but prefers to join the group because of his political views.
While on the streets, Marius saw Cosette that had grown up into a beautiful lady. It was love at first sight. With Cosette was Jean, he had again an encounter with the Thenardiers and Javert, and again he’d escaped.
With the help of Eponine, Marius discovered where they live. But again, Monsieur Thenardier knew, so Jean decided that they’ll move to England. Marius then decided to join the revolution.
During the revolt, no one knew that Javert disguised as a normal man, not until the young boy discovered it. Officers went to their barricade and there, Eponine died for saving Marius.
As Jean receives a letter from the barricade, he went there and there he saw Javert. He volunteered to kill Javert but let him go instead.
As the war continues, all had died, except for Marius, he was saved by Jean. Time passed, Cosette and Marius met again and they got married. They were reunited with Jean, and there Cosette knew everything about Jean, but still she accepted him. Soon after, Jean died beside Cosette and Marius.
Theme: Change. Love and compassion. Forgiveness.
Symbolism: The movie was symbolized by the silver candle stick. He carries it most of the time. This was from the priest that helped in changing his life. And as what the priest says, it symbolizes honesty, to be an honest man as he could be.
1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole?
In relation to the film, Les Misérables, as what the english translation says “The Miserables”, tells about the story of the different people struggling through their miserable lives.
2. Among the characters, to whom can you relate to?
Among characters, I can relate most with Fantine because I too am a mother. And as a mother, I would also do anything for my child.
3. Which part of the presentation struck you most? Why?
The part that struck me most is when Jean Valjean saw Fantine helpless and weak. Because I felt that Jean Valjean was there when Fantine needed someone to comfort her and to tell her that everything’s alright and that someone is going to make sure her child is in good hands.
4. What is the movie’s message?
I think the movie’s message is “There is always room for change.”, “There is always room for improvement.”, “Don’t be bitter but better.”, “The end justifies the means.”and “What you sow is what you will reap.”.
5. Did I like this in general? Why?
Yes, because it inspired me to do what is right and be an inspiration to other people.
6. Did I agree with the main theme/purpose? Why or Why not?
Yes, because as you can see, nobody has perfect life. We all went through hardships and some we can’t even handle but we still struggle to survive. My point is even if we encounter hardships, we must know how determine right from wrong and if ever we make mistakes, we can make something good out of it.
7. What specifically did I like/dislike? Why?
I like the part where Javert put his medal on the chest of the little boy. It shows that he honored and respected him for his bravery and for standing for what he believes in.
8. Are there any aspects of theme which are left ambiguous at the end? Why?
I think, none. Because everything was in detail.
9. How does this film relate to the things that are happening in your life?
The film can relate to the things happening to my life since I am not a perfect person and I don’t have a perfect life. I have my family and friends who love me but I also have enemies who hate me and judge me because of my past.
“Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.”
“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole?
The film means that it is about the life of Pi.
2. Among the characters, to whom can you relate to?
I think I can relate to Pi. Curious and all.
3. Which part of the presentation struck you the most? Why?
The part that struck me most is when there was a storm and Pi was beginning to feel hopeless and he was about to give up. It struck me because all of us have and is still going through difficult times and sometimes we tend to give up and be angry with God just because we don’t understand His reason. We sometime question him when He gives us trials and not realizing that He only give them to make us better persons and to mold us for a more promising future.
4. What is the movie’s message?
It is about faith and and how deep and strong it is when trials come our way.
5. Did I like this in general? Why?
Yes, because not only did it teach us about how life works and how God works in mysterious ways, it also showed us how beautiful the world is and all of God’s creations.
6. Did I agree with the main theme/purpose? Why or why not?
I agree because there will always come a time when you have to face your demons and fears and you have no one to talk to except God.
7. What specifically did I like? Why?
I like how they showed us the beautiful and amazing creations of God. It is indeed beyond our wildest dreams.
8. Are there any aspects of theme which are left ambiguous at the end? Why?
None. It was very detailed.
9.How does the film relate to the things that are happening in your life?
It is somehow similar but not that dangerous and fantastic as of Pi’s. I have my ups and downs but I always put in my mind the sayings “This too shall pass” and “Your problems are big but God is bigger than your problems”.
No one knows what it’s like to be a single mom
Unless you are one
No one can quite understand
The job that needs to be done
The years of struggling
Just to pay the bills
Trying to keep going
Even when you’re ill
No one knows what it’s like
To put all your wants and desires last
There isn’t time for those
With your child growing up so fast
But God hears your prayers
As you try to do things right
And God sees the tears
That you cry in the night
He knows how much you love your child
For that’s how He loves you
And how you want the best for him
For that’s what He wants too
All that you have done for him
Has not been done in vain
For a child is meant to walk the path
You spent the years to train
In this life there’s many changes
And we often face the unknown
But through the times of difficulty
Are the times that we have grown
So anytime you feel alone
Lift your eyes to the one who cares
He will never leave you to do it yourself
He’s the Father that’s always there
by: Rachael A. Lund
I can relate to this poem because I too am a single Mom not because the child doesn’t have a father but because I am not married to the father yet. I know what it’s like to think first of your baby than yourself and to do what ever it takes just to see him happy. You teach him good values and you teach him about God because that is what God wants us to teach our children. Even when you are sick you have to get up to make food for him, give him a bath and entertain him when he is bored. You have to pretend that you’re listening to him even when you don’t want to anymore. You make him feel loved at all times.
My favorite lines are:
“No one knows what it’s like
To put all your wants and desires last
There isn’t time for those
With your child growing up so fast”
and . .
“But God hears your prayers
As you try to do things right
And God sees the tears
That you cry in the night”
and . .
“So anytime you feel alone
Lift your eyes to the one who cares
He will never leave you to do it yourself
He’s the Father that’s always there”
My 2012 wasn’t a good year for me. Even it was the year of the dragon it didn’t give any good luck. I had broken relationships with my friends, family and boyfriend. Well, I managed to fix the problem between my boyfriend and my family. Now about my friends, I decided not to fix it because I realized it wasn’t worth it. I know, I’m mean, cruel and sometimes insensitive but I know when to stop if I feel something is wrong. When friends start talking behind your back, then they should be where they ought to be – at your back. You know some people would say that I should do everything for friendship but in this case, I choose not to. I’m just so tired being talked about and I should put a stop to it. I have learned that even friendship has an ending so don’t pressure yourself and move forward. Don’t allow yourself to be bullied by people who doesn’t know any better. I know I was born here, not to suffer but to be happy and be a reason for other people’s happiness. I am not perfect but I can try to do my best. We make mistakes all the time so don’t be afraid or don’t be ashamed because it is your mistakes that lead you to where you are right now and to what you have become. Mistakes are part of growing up and you never really stop growing. Make mistakes all the time because it’s the only way you can learn. My New Year’s Resolution is to make new mistakes. I will not repeat my mistakes from 2012. I want to experience what life has to offer. I am thinking of going out of my comfort zone. I know I am ready and if ever I mess up I know and I am confident that I have friends and a family to turn to. I have a son who will always look up to me and I would like to keep it that way. I would like to shower him not with gifts or material things but love. I would like to finish my studies so I could work as soon as possible and if given a chance – marry.
HERE LIES NIKA,
PALE AS EVER.
It was Monday morning and it was the first day of my regular class. I got up, took a bath, ate my breakfast, drank my vitamins, brushed my teeth and drove to school. I sat on the bench in the lobby and waited for my friend, Kim. She’s also my classmate in most of my minor subjects. Kim and I are like cookies and cream. Wherever she goes, I go. Wherever I go, she goes. We’re magnets. We went up to our room and sat down. Cheryl got in minutes after we did. Cheryl is the Marimar of the class. She has thick curly hair just like Marimar’s. We talked while waiting for our teacher.
It was 12 noon and we’re looking for a place to eat. We went to Grahean Diner but it was full. So we went to find another eatery. Finally, we ate at VIP. I was so hungry I could eat a horse. Kim was so thirsty she could finish a whole pitcher by herself. After lunch we drove to the SHTM Center because we both have our classes there. Kim walked me to my room and went to hers afterwards. We have different classes.
I like my teacher. She’s the student’s choice. She’s nice, approachable and very understanding. I was so glad that she’ll handle us for the rest of the semester. Kim and I went home together that day. We’re so exhausted. I brought her home. At home I opened my Facebook and Twitter but my eyes were not cooperating. So I turned off my laptop, washed my face, brushed my teeth and went to bed.
1. If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow
- I think it means we should have faith during bad times because there’s always good that comes out of it. Another version of it is “There’s always a rainbow after the rain”.
2. You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original, cannot be replaced
- You don’t have to feel insecure or useless because all of us are special. Nobody can play your role better than you.
3. Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams, but no one seems to hear a thing
- There are times when you have a problem and you feel that no one cares or no one cares to listen. You feel all alone, no one to talk to because you’re scared of what people may think.
